The 2018 Festival of Original Theatre: FOOT 2018: Supporting Bodies / Changing Minds

web site

Window for submitting proposals: Sept. 25 – Oct. 25th

The 2018 Festival of Original Theatre titled Supporting Bodies/Changing Minds will take place at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada, between the 1st and 4th of February 2018. It asks the following question: What can drama, theatre and performance studies contribute to a barrier-free society?

The conference will emphasize (co)creation and workshop-based events, development and process-led works and performances. We are focusing on the language surrounding “disability” and those who experience, or identify as having, a disability. Finally, we plan to make a statement by paying close attention to accessibility, accommodations and needs for those attending and curating the Festival.

Our aim is not only to bring together artists, academics, activists and members of the public, but to explore — through both the form and content of the conference — new approaches to creating a barrier-free institutional culture and find ways to place the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies on the front lines of this research. It is time to put the spotlight on Disability and offer both our own colleagues and the larger community an opportunity to investigate the role that drama, theatre and performance studies can play in these conversations.

We celebrate and welcome artistic, academic, activist, and interdisciplinary proposals for workshops, lecture-presentations, papers, audio-essays, performances, and other creative and participatory explorations of disability and performance studies. We encourage submission of short low tech or no tech pieces that could be presented in a cabaret evening. Please submit your proposal between September 25th and October 25th by filling out THIS FORM.
