Space Residency Program

web site

Boca del Lupo invites artists and companies to apply for their Space Residency Program, which provides up to two weeks of free space, equipment and mentorship support for the creation and development of new artistic work. Emerging and established artists are welcome to apply, and can come from a variety of artistic disciplines (theatre, dance, music, performance art, visual art) provided there is a performative component to the proposed work. With over 20 years of experience in creating our own new work, we prioritize applications that share our long held values of innovation, diversity and immersive practice.
Work should explore, but is not limited to, Micro Performance, which is an emerging global trend proliferating in many forms, from theatre and dance to new media, live art and interactive technology. Micro Performance prizes depth of experience above all, asking the audience, which is rarely more than 20 or 30 at a time, to immerse themselves in a world of the artist’s creation. Past residencies include The Chop’s Through the Gaze of a Navelwhich went on to tour to Crow’s Theatre in Toronto, the Yukon Arts Centre and Calgary’s High Performance Rodeo, and in currently in development is Neworld’s Marcus Youssef and Niall McNeil working title: Niall Talks About S*hit He Likes, With A Little Help From His Friends.
Interested artists and companies should provide the following:
  • Title of Project, contact name, email address and phone number
  • Bios of all artists involved in the residency
  • Company bio (if applicable)
  • Clear articulation of your practice and what you will be creating/investigating/developing. (eg but not limited to: social and/or community engaged practice, installation, micro performance etc)
  • 1-page proposal describing the work to be explored during residency and the eventual goal of the residency, and any other additional information that you feel would strengthen your application which can include but not limited to: Micro performance and intimate presentations for immersive work, articulate relevance/urgency of work, a reflection and advancement of diversity in our city as it relates to the art being created etc.
If successful we can provide letters of support for government grants for development, travel and accommodation costs.
